This bonus will give you stardust for every 20 hours of protection, so the longer you keep the Pokémon in the gym, the more you get it. This, of course, is not an easy dust, but at the same time one of the most effective.
In case you don't know how to start protecting the gym, just head to the store, then click on the icon that looks like a shield and choose to have the pokemon in the gym and protect it.
Simple Math: You will receive 300 Stardust for every Pokémon you capture, 500 Bonus Stardust for every new Pokémon you capture, and 500 Stardust for every 20 hours of Gym Defense (you can defend up to 10 Gyms).
Another useful tip: spend stardust wisely, and only on those Pokémon with powerful abilities. Don't trade for every Pokemon you catch, it's a waste of stardust. It is also worth storing stardust for evolution.
