The next part of the walkthrough of the huge Undead Settlement shows alternative paths. After the bridge, you can either go right or straight. Either way, you will reach the Cathedral, where an elevator awaits you.

You can also turn right and cross the bridge. You will be attacked by two opponents who will come through the door in front of you. Deal with them and leave the building. Go to the right and destroy the obstacles that will unblock the passage that goes around this building.
You will be immediately attacked by an enemy that will pop out from the left side. Find the location shown in the screenshot. Watch the arrows on the roof. It's a good idea to hide behind a shield and take a moment to reach the stairs on the other side. Use it to get to the roof, where you will be able to switch between three opponents and quickly kill them.
Look for incendiary bombs, a boardwalk, and a Homeward bone in the area. There is also a Withered Soul under the tree in front of the stairs. Walk around the building and you will find a character you can talk to.
Go to the roof and jump down on the right side. You must meet a character who has a cage on his back. Leave him alone for the moment and get to the end of the road. Push the corpse so it falls below (there is a Flame Stoneplate ring in front of the cathedral). Return to the mysterious character and enter the cage.
Remember: You can only perform this action before killing the boss.
You will be taken to a mysterious place where you can talk to Holdrick. Do this twice and you will receive the Marauder's Mark and the Homeward Bone. Also next to the body is the Wooden Shield of the God of War. Collect the items and head back across the bridge.
Across the stone bridge - go straight ahead
This time, choose the path that leads to the building. Inside there are two more opponents armed with pitchforks. There is also a large Desert Skeleton Soul. Open the door (one more enemy will rush at you).
Turn right immediately and you will find Caducius's round shield. Kill another enemy and find the location in the screenshot. There are two main paths that will lead you to the bonfire (from two different sides).
1. Go to the stone bridge before entering the area with many enemies armed with Molotov cocktails and jump to the other side. Turn around and defend yourself. At the end of the path, you will find a Titanite Shard, while another path will lead you directly to the bonfire room.
2. Walk across the square and find the Soul of an Unknown Traveler next to the torture device. There is a small bridge just behind the platform. Kill the monster blocking your path and take the Fire Clutch ring. Under the passage you will come across a creature with a huge pot. Don't underestimate him, and as soon as he picks up the pot, dodge quickly to avoid the wave of blows. Move left to get to the bonfire.
Visit the bonfire and face all the annoying opponents. Exit the building and go to the platform where the shells came from. You can reach them from the other side and kill them one by one (screenshot). Check the cage in the corner to find Cornyx. Talk to him and ask for a pyromancy lesson. He teleports to the Cleansing Chapel. Pick up the ax that is next to you. Return to the main square.
Remember: The screenshot shows a suspended corpse that you can drop down and collect Partisan. To do this, you need a long range weapon or a fire bomb.
Path to the cathedral
You can continue your way forward and reach the arena boss (there is Ember behind the tree). However, you can also explore a little more and head right. Just keep in mind that you will face many powerful monsters. Before actually getting to the bridge, you will fight all the enemies. Be especially careful with the undead Matron and the dogs that can surround you in a matter of seconds.
Find a small entrance on the right side. This section will lead you to a sewer, at the end of which you can open a gate that will lead you to a bonfire. There are rats and Bellion in the sewers. Eventually you will come across a rather strong rat. Kill all the small creatures quickly to fight the beast one on one. If you have any problems, use fire bombs. After the rat is dead, it will drop a Bloodbite ring. Use the ladder and open the door that leads to the bonfire on the dilapidated bridge.
Remember: Other bars in the sewer can be opened after you bring the ash to the maidservant in the Fire Temple. You will be able to purchase the Grave Key (1500 Souls), which opens this passage.
After you open the passage, walk towards the bridge and the cathedral, which can be seen in the distance. There is Amber and several opponents on the bridge. Try to lure them out one by one, as they are fast and strong. If you find it too difficult, just run across the square. You will find the Desert Skeleton Soul and Skull behind the hut, on the right. You really have to look back if you don't want to die right away.
Go to the cathedral and talk to the NPC on the left (here, you can try to slide down - see the chapter "Undead Settlement - Way Down"). Go inside and wait for the elevator. You will meet Siegward of Katarina. It is related to the main side quest. You have two options.
Take the elevator down
Use the elevator to access the lower floor. You will find Ember in the first chamber, and an extremely powerful opponent in the second. If you want to defeat him, move as much as you can and try to dodge all of his attacks. Don't get caught in the shock wave.
To make the fight easier, you can perform a certain trick. As soon as you enter the room, run to the left side of the room, along the column, until you reach the door behind the beast, and immediately interact with the object. You must open it and get to the Victims Path location. Make a fire.
The beast will not be able to follow you and will get stuck in the door. Use it to your advantage - take single hits and move in the opposite direction. The creature will turn away from you (screenshot), and this will give you a great opportunity to strike. Kill him and take the Irithyll Straight Sword.
Take the elevator
In order to go upstairs, turn around in the elevator to make it work, and go to the other side. An empty elevator will move down, and a second will come and take you upstairs. In the corner you will find the Soul of a Nameless Soldier, and at the top you will find a Giant that is throwing projectiles in another part of the area. You can talk to him and offer friendship. From now on, he will not throw projectiles at you and will switch to your enemies when you return to a place near the fire on a dilapidated bridge. You can also attack him to get the ring.
On the way back, notice the platform located about halfway. You can jump on it to talk to Sigward of Katarina again. Look at the beast from a distance.
Your goal is to kill the monster, and Siegward will help you achieve that. Just step out of his line of sight and attack from behind when the creature is focused on your ally. Watch out for the beast when it tries to face you or use a fire attack.
Finish the fight and talk to Siegward. You will receive Siegbrau and the Toast and Sleep gestures (when he falls asleep). If you defeat the demon, you will also receive a Fire Gem. Explore the location to find Homeward Bone, Club, Pale Tongue, Alluring Skull, Red Bug Pellet and Northern Armor Set (on one of the hanging corpses).
Enter one of the buildings and get to the very top. You will encounter two dogs and an undead Matron (screenshot). Try to avoid them or sneak up behind them to deliver a powerful blow to one of them. Whatever you decide, make it to the rooftop and look for Flynn's ring at the top.
Keep to the right and head towards the tower. You can jump down to the platform and then to the balcony (screenshot). Walk around it to get the Homeward Bone. Enter the building and find a wooden platform on the other side - run up and jump. If you can go down safely, you will find the Fyllodia Ring and the Mirrah Set. Leave the tower and you will eventually find yourself right in front of the arena.
