The catacombs are a place where you will find many traps and new enemies. In addition to this, you must look closely at the walls and pay attention to details that are different from the rest - some of them are illusory walls. At the bottom, you will also find a Fire Demon.
Home
Click on the altar in front of the fireplace where you fought the Void Keepers to enter the catacombs. A passage will open with a staircase leading to the catacombs.
Note: immediately after entering you do not need to go left. On the right side you will find a place where you can jump down several times, which will allow you to reach a platform with a skeleton archer. If you die, treat this path as a shortcut that leads directly to a staircase, from which an undead ball rolls down.
Turn left. Watch out for skeletons that will respawn here - it's very easy to miss bones growing from the ground and get stabbed in the back. Make sure their health is at zero before moving on. Otherwise, enemies will respawn again and again with full health. On the body at the end you will find the Cartus Blush.
Then go across the bridge. Watch out for a slightly stronger enemy who can throw you off the bridge after his attack. Prepare your shield and dodge when the enemy attacks you for the first time. This will allow you to easily execute a series of attacks behind him. Two more regular skeletons will come out of the room ahead of you. An archer shooting at you from above will be an additional obstacle. Quickly run off the bridge and in the first room turn left, thus climbing the stairs.
Note: the enemy can disappear for a while and roll on you. Be careful with side dodges on the bridge, as you can accidentally fall. Immediately after spawning, the enemy will perform a quick attack, which can be very dangerous. Prepare yourself and jump back, and then go behind the enemy.
Before going further along the corridor, go to the end on the left side. There you are attacked by two skeletons guarding the Soul of a nameless soldier. Then return to the hallway. Kill two new opponents and the archer who was previously shooting at you.
You will reach the location shown in the screenshot. Go to the stairs, observing the button on the ground - by stepping on it, a trap is activated, and a bullet will fly from the wall in front of you. Then head downstairs to find the Soul of a Nameless Soldier next to the stairs.
A further corridor will lead you to a room in which a stronger version of the skeleton will be waiting for you. Watch out for fast attacks of the enemy during the battle, which can give you the negative effect of bleeding. Your shield will not save the situation too much, as the enemy can easily break through it. Better focus on dodging and avoid the enemy to attack him after he finishes his hit streak. In the gap in the wall you will find a Sharpened Gem - quickly take it, as an archer will shoot at you from the platform on the other side.
Before moving on to the next room, find the wall shown in the screenshot - it is located in the corner of the room. In fact, this is an illusory wall that will disappear after being hit. Go to the corridor and hit the back of the skeleton; there will also be another skeleton on the left side. Take Tom Pyromancer Kartus from the body and go to the next room.
Note: You can also find yourself here from the first bridge, through which you will pass in this location.
You will reach the same room you found yourself in after taking the road to the right after passing the bridge. However, on this side your position is better as there are two strong skeletons in the middle. Walk up to the first one slowly and lure him to the previously cleared room, where you can easily kill him. In the corner, you can find a Double Titanite Shard. After defeating opponents, you will have a choice of two main paths. One of them leads down through an open bridge (stairs), and the second through a corridor, and then even lower. First, select the corridor ahead.
Turn around right after passing it and attack the reborn skeletons. Do this until opponents are fully formed in such a way that you get the initial advantage or even kill them right away. Walk down the hallway where you will meet Anri. Talk to her and go out to the balcony a little further.
Collect Red Moss Bush and kill the lizard. Head back up towards the stairs that connect the two sides of the catacombs.
Road through the stairs
Immediately after entering the bridge, quickly run below, past the skeletons. Stop in front of the door, right or left. The reason for all this is a ball thrown onto the stairs immediately after you enter. Escaping from him, you must watch his movement. Get out of the way to avoid damage or to avoid falling into the abyss. You can get coal at the right time.
Note: After a while, the ball will brake on the lamp. You will have a respite, and you can pick up the bone shard of the undead.
Run into the lineout when the ball is higher (or when there is no more ball at all). The path to the fire leads through many enemies. First, there will be several skeletons, one of which will throw special throwing bombs. Try to get around other opponents and kill him first.
Turn right, between the urns, a little further. Destroying any of them will release projectiles similar to those that some of the skeletons had. Destroy dishes that block the path to the item, but do it from a safe distance. This will allow you to avoid most of the projectiles. In addition to this, watch your step as you walk towards the Carthus Milkring - there will be a button on the ground that will activate the trap.
In the next part, you must once again watch out for the trap, two skeletons and one strong enemy. There will be two more fast enemies in the last corridor. Let one of them notice you, while the other turns in the other direction - this will make the fight much easier. Collect one large Soul of the Unknown Traveler and Amber at the end (walk around the hole and make sure you don't fall).
Finally, enter another corridor (there will be another ball made of undead). Collect the Large Titanite Shard from under the wall, and before moving on, enter the niche on the left side where you can rest by the fire (Catacombs of Karthus).
The lower part of the catacombs
Now you must go down from the Catacomb of Karthus bonfire, into the sewers. Wait in the hallway with the ball until it rolls back to the right side - it will bounce back very quickly, and in a narrow path where you can avoid it. After you find yourself in the sewers, first kill several rats and one large rat in the corner. Then go to the corridor on the right side.
At the end, you will notice opponents. However, gelatinous monsters hanging from the ceiling will block the path to them. You can try to bypass them or throw them down (for example, using a throwing knife). If you don't, they will fall on your head. Collect the Double Titanite Shard on your way. Under the wall at the end (this is where you might have jumped into the hole below before reaching the fire), you must carefully watch the movements of the skeletons - they will tumble in your direction. Stand under the wall so that after dodging the enemy is next to you, which will make it easy to kill him. In a small niche on the left side you will find the Blood Ring of Karthus - watch out for more monsters hanging from the ceiling.
Now let's go back to the place where the ball, consisting of undead, was. Take the small passage ahead of the stairs where you will find Amber under the large locked gate. If you have used other Embers before, you will be attacked by the Slayer Knight Tsorig. It will be very difficult to dodge his attacks in a narrow corridor, so you must quickly go around him and run into the large room.
Here you can fight more freely. The fight will be difficult, because Tsorig has a large sword, which he does a lot of damage. Most of all, you have to watch the attacks in the jump, after which he creates swirls (the enemy signals an attack. Remember that his weapon has a long range.
The traditional way of fighting the enemy can be combined with a ball. If you manage to lure the enemy in such a way that the ball will crush him at least once, you will have a great advantage and the chance to kill the enemy with a few quick hits. In order to use the ball, you can move next to the stairs and listen carefully for the sounds. Walk in the opposite direction when the ball is near. A cat and mouse game can be played around a nearby pillar. Just remember that you need to "catch" your opponent when the ball rolls from above, as he will bounce off the wall so quickly that you may not have time to dodge him. For participating in the battle, you will receive the My thanks! Gesture. For defeating the enemy, you will receive the Ring of Assassin Knights and a large number (about 10) souls.
A little further, after the place where you fought with the knight, you will find a small niche with a ladder leading up. Climb up and quickly get back down after examining the situation. This will allow you to lure your opponent to the main corridor, who will suddenly attack you after you go upstairs. Kill him, after which it will be easier to eliminate the remaining opponents. First kill the mage, then the archer (hide behind the pillar or run straight to him). Here you will find the Cartus Blush (watch out for the trap).
Finally, go to the opposite side of the stairs you entered through. Watch out for another enemy and his fast attacks. Here you can collect Carthus Blush and Grave Warden Ash. Go below, after which you will find yourself near the wall. Hit her and she disappears.
Go to the final exit and collect the Double Titanite Shard along the way. The enemy that you encounter here will throw knives at you from a distance, so if you are far from him (for example, in order to heal) you must stand behind the pillar. You can also play cat and mouse with him and attack him from around the corner. You can also move to the middle of the room and position yourself so that the undead ball is above it.
The catacombs will change their appearance as soon as you pass through the cave. Kill the lizard quickly and you will receive a Fire Gem. If the lizard manages to escape to the rock, then, in order to obtain this item, you must take the risk that you may be discovered - the lizard will lead you to another, stronger skeleton. If you took the stone earlier or you didn't chase the lizard, you can sneak up on the enemy from behind and perform a powerful attack. Two quick hits will be enough. Read the note and collect the Yellow Beetle Pill from the body on the left side.
Further, the path leads to a room filled with skeletal bones. Unlock the shortcut by raising the gate and kill two opponents. Then collect the Big Soul of the Unknown Soldier and the bug pills and go to the wooden bridge. Before entering it, take the right path where you can face Anri again. She is still looking for Horace. After returning to the bridge, all skeletons from the previous location will respawn and attack you. Go across the bridge and quickly attack the pillars on the other side in order to bring down the bridge with all the enemies down.
The last path leads directly to the door, behind which you will encounter the boss of this location. Before that, go down the destroyed bridge using it as a ladder. Go further, where a pleasant surprise awaits you - a demon known from the location of the Settlement of the Undead.
Fighting the demon
Don't count on Siegward's help this time. The fight with the demon is very difficult - he attacks with fire, jumps and deals a lot of damage with his weapon. If you want to try to fight him in the usual way, get close to the enemy's feet, constantly move and avoid jumping. In addition to this, dodge as soon as the enemy raises their weapon, as this attack is one of the most powerful.
During the fight, you can see skeletons re-emerging. Using them to your advantage can make the duel much easier. Run from the place where the demon is to the place where there are many skeletons. Do not attack them, but try to make them appear around the demon, after which they will attack him as well. This will lead to a battle between the boss and the enemies. You just have to stay alive and keep running. The skeletons are unstable, but if you wait until all of them are revived, they might even kill the demon, or at least seriously injure him. If you combine this strategy with attacks where the enemy is focused on killing skeletons, you have a great chance to quickly get rid of the demon - make it your priority.
In addition to this, if you have any more powerful spells that are not related to pyromancy, you can go down into a corridor that the demon cannot pass through (screenshot). In this case, attack the boss at a distance as long as you can. Just make sure he uses a powerful fire strike into the corridor - stay close to the exit so you can hide behind a wall if necessary. If you're lucky, you can lure him to the skeletons and then run to this place. Use the fight between enemies to your advantage. After the battle, you will receive a Demon Soul and about 5 souls. In addition to this, below you will find the Large Soul of the Unknown Soldier and the Large Titanite Shard. In the next corridor near the body at the end there is Old Sage's Blindfold and a Witch's Ring. A little further you will find a bonfire and a path leading to a secret location, Smoldering Lake.
Note: now you can go back to the bridge, to the door behind which you will find the boss. However, if you killed him before meeting Horace, Anri's quest will end prematurely. Horace can be found in the Smoldering Lake location.
Regardless of where you go, there is one more thing to do in the same place as you encounter a demon. You should try to open the chest ... which turns out to be a mimic. You do not need to check if this is so - immediately attack him with strong attacks. Make sure he doesn't catch you. After defeating him, you will receive a black blade.
