If you want to play Gran Turismo or Castlevania on the go, Sony's PlayStation Portable is a great way to do it. But it's getting harder and harder to justify having a pocket PSP game console when you already have an equally powerful Android phone in your pocket. The portable set-top box has been supported for 10 years, and now your smartphone may well take its place.
There have been many PSP emulators over the years like PPSSPP, but I come back to UltraPSP from UltraGameEmulators over and over again, which is actually based on PPSSPP. This is one of the most stable emulators I've used on Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC 10, Pixel and LG G5 without any problems.
Although UltraPSP is no longer available in the Play Store, it can still be downloaded to your phone or tablet. Just download the latest version with APKPure, make sure your device has the option “unknown sources"And then install the emulator. If you prefer to use the emulator available on Google Play, there is always PPSSPP.
If you have custom ISO images for your own PSP game collection, great! If not, you will also need to install an Android app that will extract files from RAR, 7Z, ZIP, and so on. For example, the free utility Easy Unrar, Unzip & Zip.
Step 1: Extract the game files
After you download the game you want, you will need to extract the files from the archive.
1. Open Easy Unrar.
2. Scroll down and tap "Download"(Download).
3. Click on the game archive file to check the box.
4. Click on the "Take out"(Extract).
5. In the pop-up window, tap the file again to check it.
6. Click Check Out again.
Once the folder is extracted, review all files to make sure there are no others to extract. If you find another archive file, be sure to extract it. When you see the ISO file, you can exit Easy Unrar.
Step 2: Start the game
The hardest part is over, so now it's time to play! Open UltraPSP, click on the control panel symbol, then select "Games". Select "Home", Then open the folder"Download". Note that you have the option to view your selections in grid or list format.
In the large green folders, click on the name of the game that you unpacked. In my case, this is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
If you only needed to unzip one archive file, you should see a cover with the name of the game in the folder. If not, click on the name of the game until you see the cover image of the game. When you see the image, just click on it to start the game.
Important: Not all PSP games will run on UltraPSP, nor will they run on PPSSPP. Some of them are simply incompatible, so if something doesn't work, don't despair - try a different game.
