Crafting is a very important element. The Divisionwhich borrows many elements from RPGs besides leveling and gear.
Players who are not familiar with the RPG system can make a mistake whenever they try to craft items. Instead, you should save all of your materials and not waste any of them on crafting early in the game. Generally, you shouldn't touch them until you reach level 30.
The reason for this is simple: the costs of a level 10 cannon are the same as for a 30 cannon. So don't waste your materials crafting low-level easily replaceable items. Just wait until you level up to level 30. This is much more important, since then you can invest your resources in weapons and armor, which will last much longer.
Plus, you should never sell your weapons and armor to a vendor because they will pay you much less than you expect. Just take apart the item you are going to sell and use it to craft later.
Likewise, you should keep an eye on your material investments. Every five green weapon tiers you craft can be one blue due to resource exchange rates. Every five blue weapon tiers can become one gold.
There are three simple rules for crafting that you must follow to maximize your resources:
- Do not craft until level 30
- Do not sell your equipment, but disassemble it
- Save materials for golden weapons

- Green weapons and equipment: 5 green materials
- Blue weapons and equipment: 3 primary blue materials, 1 secondary blue material.
- Gold weapons and equipment: 5 primary gold materials, 3 secondary gold materials, 3 Division technologies.
Purchasing and Unlocking Drawings
For the most part, you can purchase blueprints to create new items by completing side quests. The reward for such missions will be indicated on the map.
You can find gold blueprints in the Dark Zone. There they can be bought from vendors using Dark Zone or Phoenix Currency, depending on the vendor. If you have the correct upgrade technology unlocked, you can even make those purchases at the base, in complete safety.
Phoenix currency can be purchased by completing raids and missions in challenge mode.
