Infected are the former citizens of Chernarus, who could not defeat the infection. They are the most common opponents in the game and hinder your survival in every possible way:
Normal - the most common type of zombie that can be found everywhere. They have about the same speed as the player, after they die there is a chance that some common items or ammunition for civilian cannons will drop. In the later stages of the game, they can appear in hordes that chase the player.
Military - This type appears only near military installations such as military bases and roadblocks at intersections. They do more damage than normal infected and have more health. Some of them have pistols or rifles.
Crawlers - the fastest enemies in the game. They are very similar to normal infected, but move much faster. They live mainly in the same place as ordinary zombies.
Sleeping - they usually lie in cities and near roads. When a survivor approaches or is disturbed by something noisy, they rise. Experienced players can spot sleepers from afar.
Biohazards - these infected appear in about the same places as the usual ones. When they die, they leave behind an acid pool that deals damage and has a high chance of infecting the survivor. These puddles disappear after 10 seconds.
Screamers - they cannot directly harm the survivors, but when they find one of them, they start screaming and calling out to all other infected from nearby places. They can also wake up sleeping people.
Note: killing an infected gives additional experience points (XP).
